Preparations for Reopening – November 3, 2025

30 October, 2025

Members of the UWI-Mona Academic Community would have been aware of the advisory with respect to the suspension of teaching and learning activities for the rest of this week and the recommencement of face-to-face classes on Monday, November 3rd.

For the next few days, the Estate Management Department will lead the cleaning up operations on the campus. We are asking Deans and Heads of Departments to organize the preparation of your respective spaces to facilitate the commencement of teaching and learning activities on November 3rd. This means identifying the necessary staff that must be engaged in this endeavour.

In consideration of those students who may be unable to engage face-to-face because of the impact of the hurricane, we are asking lecturers to update their course containers with the relevant course material so that affected students may access the material subsequently, and also to exercise flexibility where necessary to accommodate these students. This flexibility is also extended to staff members who themselves may be severely impacted and unable to teach face-to-face.

In consideration of the period of learning loss occasioned by the hurricane, we have sought and obtained approval to extend teaching to Thursday, November 27th, allowing for an additional four days. As a consequence, the Study Week will now begin on Friday, November 28th and end on Thursday, December 4th. Final Assessments will be administered from Friday, December 5th to Wednesday, December 24th. It is our hope that these adjustments will better allow both Academic Staff and students to complete the curriculum and have adequate time for study and assessments.

Considering the impact of the hurricane and the need to focus on restarting teaching and learning activities, as well as supporting students, we are requesting that all external engagements such and conferences and symposia scheduled between November 3rd – 7th, be rescheduled.

We wish all our staff the very best as together we recover even stronger.
