Mona Engineering Projects Expo 2026

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of the West Indies, Mona, cordially invites you to our inaugural Mona Engineering Projects Expo 2026, under the theme “Shaping the Future and Energizing Progress through Innovation and Technology”. This year’s event will feature projects from Civil Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Electronics Engineering. Our final year students have designed, prototyped and tested these projects and will showcase their solutions to societal needs and real-world challenges. We welcome you to join us, engage with their work, explore opportunities for collaboration on problem-solving and participate in shaping future graduates.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Structural Design – Recommended Locations and Designs for Emergency Shelters
  • Resilient Infrastructure - Preservation of Roads using Pavement Management Systems
  • Material Science - Recycling Waste Rubber for use in Reinforced Concrete
  • Geotechnical Analysis - The Correlation of Key Indices used in Soil Investigations
  • Artificial Intelligence – Machine and Deep Learning applications in healthcare, industrial automation, security systems and home assistive technologies
  • Internet of Things – Connecting embedded systems devices to the internet and mobile applications to allow remote access and monitoring of essential applications in homes and businesses
  • Wireless Communication – Campus-based wireless mesh network for data communication and security systems
  • Energy Storage and Generation – Pump Storage technology and Microgrid systems
  • Energy Conversion Monitoring and Control – Monitor energy in buildings, DC-AC conversion and frequency conversion
  • Patient Assistive Devices – Tools to Improve Quality of Life
  • Medical Devices – Cutting-Edge Healthcare Diagnostics and Treatments

The projects integrate advanced technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, deep learning, solar photovoltaics, wireless communication (Wi-Fi/LTE), digital signal processing and mobile/web applications. Projects also span the sub-disciplines of structural engineering, wastewater engineering, storm water drainage systems, transportation, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, as well as general ROM costing. These align with global industry trends ensuring relevance and scalability.

Why attend this event and partner with us?
1. The student projects were inspired by real-world challenges identified by our industry partners, university and community stakeholders. You now have the opportunity to participate in proposing future projects.
2. Connect with future engineers equipped with hands-on expertise in emerging technologies.
3. Connect with Faculty members who have expertise in various disciplines in engineering.
4. Co-develop solutions that address problems within your company, sponsor research or mentor students to tackle pressing societal needs.
5. Participate in our newly launched internship program.
